Straddling
the winding Erie Canal - at the foot of the Finger Lakes Region - is a
spirited small community founded on the
Erie Canal
and New York Central Railroad,
peppermint oil
and pottery. Lyons, New York is the seat of Wayne County
and a meeting point between miles of lakeside vistas, rolling hills,
quaint antiques shops, road-side
farmers' markets
and wine trails.
The village is marked by an
old-fashioned downtown
business district - which still contains numerous
family-owned shops, historic churches, quaint side street neighborhoods
and a network of close-knit community members - who celebrate their
community every year with the
Peppermint Days festival
.
As the county seat, it contains
the historic old Wayne County Courthouse
- whose silver dome is a crowned
jewel that can be seen for miles. And a stone’s throw away are miles of
sandy Lake Ontario and Finger Lakes beaches, doldrums-laden recreation
routes and urban cultural centers.
Lyons is a place many like to call
home because it is home to so much.

It is my pleasure to have been elected Mayor of the
Village of Lyons. As you scroll through the Village website you
will see scenes of Lyons that are the reasons we are so proud of our
community.
Lyons is a historical community which borders the Erie Canal on the
north and south sides of the Village. We are working to promote
tourism , family recreation and business activity along this
National Historic Corridor.
A Strategic Town, Village Plan is being compiled so that Lyons will
have along range plan in place to aid in the accomplishment of our
goals for the Village.
Lyons already has exciting new things happening. We will have a new
library in a historic hospital building. A new community center has
been built for use by young and old. The historic Ohmann Theatre
has been renovated and is available for current movies, plays and
arts programs. Local businesspersons are painting and fixing some
of our historic downtown buildings.
Lyons has excellent schools, sports programs, we have loyal
industry, water & sewer utilities throughout the Village . We have
top notch police personnel, a modern fire department staffed 24/7
and a full time ambulance department. There are churches of all
denominations and many active organizations that welcome new
members. And, best of all we have affordable housing. Our assets
far outweigh any liabilities that may be real or perceived.
We are a proud community celebrating 175 years of incorporation in
2006. We welcome your visit or joining us as a new resident. |
